CDL Driver FAQ
Will I be paid by the hour or by the mile?
Your pay may vary from mileage to hourly depending on the assignment. The pay method will be discussed with you before you accept the assignment.
How much will I be paid?
Wages also vary depending on the length and difficulty of the assignment. This will be discussed with you prior to your acceptance of an assignment.
When is payday?
Spec pays weekly on the Friday following the week you work. You can choose from the following: direct deposit, Paycard, or check.
Do you have benefits?
Employees who work at least an average of 30 hours a week, or 130 hours a month, for 60 days are full time employees are eligible for benefits. At that time you will receive a benefits notice. You may sign up or waive benefits at that time. If you elect benefits, they will begin 60 days plus however many days to the following 1st of the month after signing up.

How soon after I fill out my application I can begin working?
Spec is fully DOT compliant and must complete the necessary steps prior to hiring a driver. This process may take as little as 72 hours but can take longer depending on the compliance steps.
What kind of work will I be doing, in terms of the vehicles I drive and unloading requirements?
We offer a variety of assignments with varying work and vehicle types. Work can range from local pick-up and delivery, which may require the driver to unload, to drop-and-hook service. We will discuss details and expectations of assignments prior to your acceptance of any job.
Is this local or over-the-road (OTR) driving?
We offer a variety of assignments from local to OTR and line-haul.
Can I expect permanent work?
We offer full time and part time positions. Often our customers well keep drivers on permanently but payroll them through spec. If you are looking for permanent work, we match our customer’s needs to your compatibility. We send drivers on various assignments. Many of our permanent positions begin with a single day placement. We ask that you keep an open mind about going to one day or short term assignments. This will increase the hours that you work each week, and can lead to a permanent placement.
Can I work 40 hours per week?
Depending on the assignment it is possible to work 40 hours or more per week. This might mean that you work at two or more client locations.
